The application for the 24-month<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>STEM<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>extension is very similar to the initial 12 months of OPT application, but with some additional reporting requirements and additional\u00a0documents\u00a0needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"x_xmsonormal\"><span>Requirements for STEM OPT\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Have been granted OPT and currently be in a valid period\u00a0of post-completion OPT<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Have earned a bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s, or doctoral degree that is considered STEM<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Company must be e-verified at the time student applies.<\/li>\n<li>Must be employed more than 20 hours per week per employer.<\/li>\n<li>You must apply for work authorization by electronically filing a Form I-765 and pay filing fee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>When to Apply for STEM OPT<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_xmsonormal\"><span>USCIS must receive your completed<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>STEM<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>application prior to the initial EAD expiration, not more than 90 days before the initial EAD expiration, and within 60 days of ISSA endorsing your I-20 for the<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>STEM<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>extension.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"x_xmsonormal\"><span>How to Apply for STEM OPT<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Step 1: Check to see if company is e-verified. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Employer must be currently enrolled in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-verify.gov\/about-e-verify\/e-verify-data\/how-to-find-participating-employers\">E-Verify<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Cannot proceed with application until employer is on E-Verify website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 2: Prepare the following documents:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>Copy of the completed and signed <a href=\"\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/sevis\/pdf\/i983.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form I-983 Training Plan<\/a>. The I-983 is not sent to USCIS as part of the formal application packet, but it could be requested by USCIS during the adjudication process. (See &#8220;I-983<span class=\"x_xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>STEM&#8221; link for tips on completing the form.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Application filing fee of $470 (credit card for when application is filed online). <\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Digital Passport Photo. <\/span><span>2&#215;2 inches (51 x 51 mm) color photo that meets <\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/visa-information-resources\/photos.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">USCIS specifications<\/a>. <\/span><span>Want to scan an existing photo? Must be a photo taken within the last 30 days and it must not have been used in any other applications. Also, picture must be scanned at a resolution of 300 pixels per inch (12 pixels per mm). To check if an image is eligible, use the photo tool found here: <\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/tsg.phototool.state.gov\/photo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">https:\/\/tsg.phototool.state.gov\/photo<\/a><\/span><span class=\"x_MsoHyperlink\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_MsoHyperlink\"><span>or<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_MsoHyperlink\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span><a title=\"https:\/\/dvlottery.me\/dv-lottery-photo-checker\" href=\"https:\/\/dvlottery.me\/dv-lottery-photo-checker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">https:\/\/dvlottery.me\/dv-lottery-photo-checker<\/a>. <\/span><span>If you don\u2019t know where to go, an option is: Claremont Photo, 241 Harvard Ave., Claremont, 91711.
