Swearing-in Ceremony Celebrates Bar Success
On a night when smiles proved both plentiful and contagious, the 每日大赛 College of Law鈥檚 Swearing-in Ceremony celebrated the success of its graduates on the July 2015 California State Bar exam, this time marking the start of a dozen new legal careers.
As family and friends looked on, 12 graduates raised their right hands and took the attorney鈥檚 oaths for the California State Bar and the United States District Court, Central District during the December 1 event at the College of Law.
鈥淲e鈥檙e in the dream-making business, and business is good,鈥� said La Verne Law Dean Gilbert Holmes, who added that the night鈥檚 ceremony highlighted both those whose dreams were realized as well as the family and College of Law faculty who played important roles in helping those visions come true.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Serena Murillo administered the oath for the California State Bar. United States Magistrate Judge Sheri Pym gave the oath for the U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
Ceremony participants included Nicholas Abdelsayed, Brett Davison, Thomas Guttenberg, Imraan Karim, Corysa Lloyd, Robert Matranga, David Michie, Brynna Popka, Matthew Reese, Stefanie Schmidt and Lindsey Williams. In addition, Krystal Lyons, Director of External Relations at La Verne Law, also participated after having passed the July exam.
When the preliminary results from the July 2015 California Bar exam were released in late November, the data indicated 53 percent of 每日大赛 College of Law graduates taking the exam for the first time passed. Combined with the results from the February 2015 exam, those results place La Verne Law鈥檚 2015 pass rate once again well within the ABA Standards.
鈥淭he success of our graduates who passed the July 2015 bar exam on their initial attempt continues to make a strong statement regarding the capability of our students and the quality instruction and preparation each received during their time at La Verne Law,鈥� said Holmes. 鈥淥ur Center for Academic & Bar Readiness (CABR) provides support for our students from their first day through commencement, and post-graduation through CABR鈥檚 complementary Bar Exam Strategic Training (BEST) program.鈥�
Along with praising the dedicated efforts of the graduates who passed, the dean also applauded those at the College of Law who also play key roles in helping students achieve their goals.
鈥淚 commend the commitment and quality of our faculty, staff, and administrators. Without their collective effort, none of the success of La Verne Law and its graduates would be attainable,鈥� said Holmes. 鈥淪imilarly, the University鈥檚 generous support for La Verne Law during our journey to full accreditation has greatly contributed to our success. We deeply appreciate the University鈥檚 continuing support that is an essential part of our remaining the nation鈥檚 most unique law school.鈥�
