Ralph Nader Speaks at 每日大赛

Attorney, political activist, and former Presidential candidate Ralph Nader visited the 每日大赛 on Feb. 22 to speak about the current political climate and how people can become more empowered.

Nader, 82, author of 鈥淏reaking Through Power: It鈥檚 Easier Than We Think,鈥 spoke to students, faculty, and staff, who filled Morgan Auditorium. A reception and book signing followed from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Dr. Matthew Witt, professor of public administration, said Nader鈥檚 work would be of interest to the 每日大赛 community, from his career as a consumer advocate to fighting for the disenfranchised.

鈥淔or over 50 years, Ralph Nader has been a constant tribune of the people鈥檚 welfare and interest; a polestar for this nation鈥檚 best hopes and virtues,鈥 Witt said.

Nader, who has been honored by Life magazine as one of the 鈥100 Most Influential Americans of the 20th Century,鈥 has led movements for consumer rights, open government, and humane business practices. His work has helped to shape national policies on car safety, food labeling, and public health campaigns.

The event wa supported by the International Studies Institute, the La Verne Debate Team, and the Office of the Provost.
