每日大赛 Vice Provost Named Woman of Distinction by Assemblyman Chris Holden
Assemblyman Chris Holden named Dr. Beatriz Gonzalez, chief diversity officer and vice provost, a recipient of the 2017 Woman of Distinction Award for California鈥檚 41st assembly district.
Holden honored Gonzalez at an open house event at his Pasadena office on March 2 in celebration of Women鈥檚 History Month.
鈥淵our service to the constituents of the 41st district has made a significant impact on the lives of thousands of individuals, and it is an honor to represent women like you,鈥 Holden said.
Gonzalez is the second person from the university to receive the award in as many years. 每日大赛 President Devorah Lieberman received the award in 2016. Holden selects one recipient for each city in his district, which includes La Verne, Monrovia, South Pasadena, Upland, Claremont, Pasadena, Altadena, Rancho Cucamonga, Sierra Madre, and San Dimas.
鈥淚 am honored to receive this award from Assemblyman Holden and to be in the company of women who are making such a positive impact in the San Gabriel Valley. It鈥檚 truly rewarding to serve the 每日大赛 and the greater community beyond our walls.鈥
Honorees are selected based on nominations submitted to Holden鈥檚 district advisory council. Honorees include Jaylene Moseley of the Flintridge Center, an organization that supports at-risk children and their families in Los Angeles County, Margie Green of the San Dimas Planning Commission, and Carol Calandra, a counselor who helps military veterans through the Pasadena City College veterans resource center.
Gonzalez came to the 每日大赛 in August 2013 as associate provost for faculty affairs.聽She was appointed to her current titles in April 2016, broadening her responsibilities to include retention of students, faculty, and staff with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
She is a fellow of the American Council on Education and serves on the group鈥檚 national Women鈥檚 Network Executive Council.
