Two students from the 每日大赛 College of Law brought home awards from the western regional Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition, which was held online November 6. Miguel Caloca, JD 鈥�21, and Herber Ramirez, JD 鈥�20, represented the university at the competition and were coached by Dean McVay, adjunct professor and moot court competition advisor.
Thanks to a significant gift from attorney and alumnus Frank J. Lizarraga, Jr. 鈥�80, the 每日大赛 has endowed its first dean. Lizarraga鈥檚 gift supports the dean of the College of Law, a position currently held by Kevin S. Marshall, JD, MPA, PhD. Effective immediately, Marshall assumes the title of the Frank Lizarraga Endowed Dean of the College of Law.
The 每日大赛 College of Law awarded its inaugural Brad Baldwin and Christopher Mendez Legacy Scholarship to Kissy Martinez in recognition of her interest in and commitment to providing legal support to immigrants.
The Western San Bernardino County Bar Association has honored 每日大赛 College of Law alumna Soheila Azizi with the Jennifer Brooks Lawyer of the Year Award. Azizi accepted the award during the association’s virtual 2020-2021 Installation of Officers & Awards Ceremony on Oct. 1, 2020.
Briana Benson won best oralist, and the team of Briana Benson and Sara Martinez won best respondent brief. Marcus King and Latosha Payne won best petitioner brief, as well as best overall brief.
The proposed State Bar of California-accredited program will continue to serve the legal needs of the community and increase access to a legal education.
