{"id":14146,"date":"2024-04-10T12:41:27","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T19:41:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/news\/?p=14146"},"modified":"2024-04-10T14:28:17","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T21:28:17","slug":"asymmetry-and-alignment-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/news\/2024\/04\/10\/asymmetry-and-alignment-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Asymmetry and Alignment Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Art and Art History is very excited to present<em> Asymmetry and Alignment,<\/em> an installation of new paintings by Oliver Sutter.<\/p>\n<p>Sutter\u2019s work embrace the immediacy of the present moment feeling fully charged and switched on. Brushstrokes\u00a0 playfully peppered with textural spots\u00a0 may allude to a joyful stream of consciousness allowing one to focus on the purity of color.<\/p>\n<p>Always interested in what a painting can be, Sutter breaks from a rectangular format and presents works using triangle and pentagon shapes. These geometric works can allude to both positive and negative forms. The slender triangle can be viewed as an aerodynamic wing or as a split in the gallery wall revealing a different dimension. Meanwhile,\u00a0 the pentagon maybe seen as a solid architectural component or as an expanding aperture with shifting angles. Three green rectangular works offer different views of the same imaginary space, which might be the cloudy atmosphere of a sci-fi universe or a sugary color flow in a candy
