The new <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Phi Upsilon Chapter<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> makes the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/student-life\/fraternity-sorority-life\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">ninth Greek organization<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and third fraternity at the university.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe are excited to continue to grow the diversity of Greek organizations and welcome another Divine Nine historically Black Greek-letter organization to the community,\u201d said Adam Wong, associate dean of students. \u201cHaving the additional fraternity helps increase opportunities to embrace and foster diversity and inclusion not just in our fraternities and sororities, but also the broader campus.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter organization established in 1906 at Cornell University to promote fraternity and support among black students. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Today, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">there are more than 730 chapters throughout the world. Its mission is to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">develop leaders, promote brotherhood and academic excellence, and provide service and advocacy for communities. Many are involved in campus in other capacities such as athletics, student government, student employment, resident assistance, orientation leadership, honor society membership and more.
