There was no hint of gloom on June 10 when the University of La\u00a0Verne College of Law hosted a special reception recognizing two alumni appointed to judgeships in Southern California Superior Courts.<\/p>\n
In late 2014, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the appointment of Gassia Apkarian \u201992 as judge in the Orange County Superior Court and Steven J. Singley \u201900 as judge in the San Bernardino County Superior Court.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are perfect examples of what it means to be successful La\u00a0Verne Law alumni,\u201d Dean Gilbert Holmes said. \u201cWe appreciate the important role you play in your communities, your strong commitment to ethics and embodiment of La Verne\u2019s values.\u201d<\/p>\n
San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge Lisa Rogan \u201901 introduced Apkarian\u00a0and Singley to an audience of La Verne\u00a0alumni, faculty, students and special guests from throughout the legal and local communities.<\/p>\n
Singley served in the U.S. Navy Reserves as an Intelligence Specialist from 1986 to 1991. He received his undergraduate degree in International Studies and Political Science from Azusa Pacific University in 1995 before graduating from the University of La\u00a0Verne College of Law in 2000. Singley spent his time as a Deputy District Attorney for San Bernardino County from 2000 to 2008 before becoming Deputy County Counsel until 2015.<\/p>\n
Apkarian graduated from the University of La\u00a0Verne in 1992. She has been senior attorney and president at Apkarian Defense APC since 2007. She served as a deputy public defender at the Orange County Public Defender\u2019s Office from 2000 to 2007, public relations advisor to President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan from 1998 to 1999, and was executive director of Democrats 2000 from 1997 to 1998. Apkarian served as special assistant to the ambassador at the Embassy of Armenia in Washington, D.C. from 1996 to 1997, and was western regional director of the Armenian Assembly of America in 1995, where she was deputy executive director from 1994 to 1995 and country executive director from 1992 to 1994.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
