THE 2025-26 ONE BOOK SELECTION IS HERE!<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The College of Arts and Sciences has selected author H\u00e9ctor Tobar’s book Our Migrant Souls: A Meditation on Race and the Meaning and Myths of “Latino”<\/em> as the 2025-26 academic year selection for One Book, One University<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Our Migrant Souls<\/em>, Pulitzer Prize-winning author H\u00e9ctor Tobar explores facets of \u201cLatino\u201d identity, blending the historical with the current to reflect on how ethnicity, race, and cultural heritage are constructed in our society. Tobar\u2019s free-flowing meditations intertwine various themes in ways that engage the personal, the familial, the social, and the political. This<\/p>\n

mixture of personal memoir, history, and migration and deportation narratives offers an accessible, compelling approach to topics like immigration, systemic injustices, and the meaning of home. Throughout the book, Tobar works to place the varied experiences of \u201cLatino\u201d peoples at the center of contemporary American life, presenting their stories as crucial narratives in the larger American story. Our Migrant Souls<\/em> won the Z\u00f3calo Public Square Book Prize and the Kirkus Prize for Nonfiction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
