{"id":104,"date":"2018-04-30T13:42:24","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T20:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/provost\/?page_id=104"},"modified":"2025-05-05T11:59:23","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T18:59:23","slug":"collections","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/laverne.edu\/provost\/collections\/","title":{"rendered":"Cultural &#038; Natural History Collections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/ulvcollections.org\/\">Cultural &amp; Natural History Collections<\/a> is the steward for the university\u2019s museum collections of artifacts, objects, and specimens that together represent, preserve, and document the collective memory of our natural and cultural world. Its collections date from the Ice Ages to modern times, and include South American textiles and Native American baskets, objects from Asia and Africa, every day articles of modern living and industrial design, fossils, taxidermied animals, insects, herbarium, tektites and minerals, La Brea Tar Pit specimens, and so much more.<\/p>\n<p>The Collections (CNHC) is a legacy unit of Lordsburg College, founded in 1891 as the Lordsburg College Museum. It has mirrored the growth of the college as it transitioned to La\u00a0Verne College and then to University of La\u00a0Verne. From the first, CNHC has relied on generous donations from the community, alumni, members of the Church of the Brethren, scientists, naturalists, historians, anthropologists, and our own faculty. Today it houses over 70,000 objects, and resides in a newly renovated space with state-of-the-art cabinetry and permanent exhibits spread across campus.<\/p>\n<p>At its core, the Collections is committed to the promotion of cultural and scientific literacy, keeping our cultural memories alive, conserving our collective history and shared humanity, and ensuring that its objects, artifacts, and specimens remain accessible for future generations.<\/p>\n<p>CNHC is supported in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts: ArtWorks, National Endowment for the Humanities, California Humanities, American Alliance of Museums, Council on Library\u00a0and Information Resources, Native Sons of the Golden West, and Ms. June Pulcini.<\/p>\n<p>The Cultural &amp; Natural History Collections is always grateful for <a href=\"https:\/\/securelb.imodules.com\/s\/1636\/lg21\/form.aspx?sid=1636&amp;gid=1&amp;pgid=435&amp;content_id=90&amp;dids=154\">gifts and donations<\/a> of any size. They support educational and conservation programs, inventive and original exhibits, community engagement and enrichment activities, and development of future programs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse;
